Latvia's largest electric vehicle charging networks in one app

24 November 2022

From November, charging will become even more convenient for electric vehicle owners – the Elektrum Drive app can also be used on the e-mobi charging network. This will provide convenient and fast access to more than 300 charging stations nationwide within a single app. Elektrum Drive is the largest provider of electric vehicle charging services in Latvia and is also available to customers across the Baltics.

This will allow existing Elektrum Drive customers to significantly expand their charging options and vice versa – e-mobi users will be able to use the Elektrum Drive app for charging. Electric vehicle owners will be able to conveniently use either of Latvia's two largest electric vehicle charging networks with just one app.

Pauls Beinarovičs, Head of the Electromobility and Radar System Development Department at the Road Traffic Safety Directorate: "The e-mobi network with fast charging stations operated by CSDD (Road Traffic Safety Directorate) provides a charging service for both domestic and international electric vehicle users."

The cooperation with Elektrum Drive will make it easier for electric vehicle users to receive a charging service, regardless of whether they are charging in the CSDD e-mobi or Elektrum Drive network, by allowing them to use a single login to charge at most charging stations in Latvia. This cooperation will improve both the quality of service and the availability of charging infrastructure, which is an essential prerequisite for the successful development of electromobility.

Latvenergo Group opened the first public electric vehicle charging connection in 2010 and registered the first electric vehicle in Latvia in 2011. In turn, e-mobi is the first public electric vehicle charging network, developed and maintained by the Road Traffic Safety Directorate since 2016.

Ansis Valdovskis, Head of the Electric Vehicle Charging Network at Latvenergo: "Two years ago, Latvenergo, CSDD and industry representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate faster development of the electric vehicles system by sharing data and information to further develop the most suitable locations and services. It is logical and natural to create a synergy of charging networks, as it is essential for the capacity of the Latvian electric vehicle market to have more user-friendly services. Not only the cost-effectiveness of using an electric vehicle, but also how easy, fast and accessible it will be, will contribute to the country's climate neutral goals and to individual well-being."

Elektrum Drive charging stations are located in Riga, Mārupe, Jūrmala, Liepāja, Jelgava, Valmiera, Aizkraukle, Jēkabpils, Ventspils, Tērvete, Gulbene and Daugavpils, while e-mobi charging stations are evenly spread across the TEN-T road network, regional roads and main population centres – Riga, Daugavpils, Liepāja, Jelgava, Ventspils, etc., thus enabling electric vehicle users to travel throughout the territory of Latvia. The payment options at Elektrum Drive are very wide. Users can pay for their charges immediately or apply for a post-paid service, which will allow them to receive an invoice for their charges together with other Elektrum invoices. For easier planning of charging sessions, the Elektrum Drive app allows you to specify the time you want to charge. The app also links to the navigation platforms available on your smartphone, i.e. after finding the charging station on the app's map, you can transfer the route to Waze, Google Maps, etc. without any unnecessary steps.

The company also offers the possibility for individual station owners to connect their charging equipment to the Elektrum Drive charging service, thus enabling them to pay for their charges using the Elektrum Drive app. Elektrum Drive is also going one step further – the first electric vehicle charging stations will soon be opened in Lithuania and Estonia. This is another planned step in Latvenergo Group's development, which is to become one of the largest providers of electric vehicle charging services in the Baltics.

Before you hit the road, download the Elektrum Drive app on Google Play or the App Store to make sure you don't have to look far for an available charging location!
