Electricity

The electricity price is determined individually for each customer. It depends on the contract conclusion date and the product selected.

You can find the electricity price per 1 kWh for your selected product in My Contracts section of the portal. The price shown in this section does not include the distribution and transmission fee or VAT. The electricity price makes up approximately one third of the total electricity bill.

A new customer can conclude a contract in the portal, in Electricity Calculator section. Enter your average electricity consumption, choose the most suitable product and click Conclude Contract.

An existing Elektrum customer can add a new property to their contract after logging in to the portal. This can be done in My Contracts section, by selecting the option Add Electricity Supply Property.

You need to provide the meter number to conclude the contract.

For additional information, please see Conclude New Contract and Where Is the Meter Number Shown on the Electricity Meter? sections.

The term of the electricity trading contract is individual for each customer. Please find the contract term in My Contracts section.

We prepare an offer for each customer individually, based on previous electricity consumption. However, you may reject the prepared offer and choose the product that seems most suitable for you. We recommend using our Electricity Calculator to choose the most suitable product.

Please complete an application for Installation of New Connection. Sadales tīkls AS will assess the technical possibilities for installing a connection at your home and, within 3–5 working days (or within 20 calendar days in technically complex cases), prepare a price offer for you.

In this case, we recommend choosing Elektrum Ekonomiskais product with the payment method Balanced Payment. Once you receive information about the monthly balanced payment amount, you will be able to conveniently combine payments for several months into one. Learn more detailed information about Elektrum Products.

We invite you to combine multiple contracts for different properties, such as a summer house, garage and flat, into a single contract. This way, your total monthly consumption will be higher, and you will be able to choose a product at a more favourable price.

The electricity contract does not need to be physically signed! An electronic confirmation is sufficient to conclude the contract.

You can find your average monthly electricity consumption by logging in to the Elektrum.lv portal – inMy Contracts section. If you want to find the average consumption of the specific contract, select it and click on Properties tab.

In My Reports section you can choose Compare option and click Average Monthly Consumption to track deviations from the average consumption by hour, day and month.

You can change your current electricity product after logging in to the portal. In My Contracts section click Change Product button and use the Electricity Calculator to find the most suitable product for you.

Once you have chosen the desired product, click Choose Product.

Some electricity products may be subject to Product Change Fee!

You can change the product no more than once a month.

We invite you to log in to My Contracts section and clickChange Product button to change your current electricity product to another one. You will be able to calculate the most advantageous product for you by using the Electricity Calculator. Click Choose Product for the desired product.

Some electricity products may be subject to Product Change Fee!

Elektrum Universal Service automatically comes into effect if, after the end of the previous product’s sales period, you have not chosen a new electricity product or have rejected the product offer.

It may also come into effect in other cases where you were required to choose one of the products but did not make a selection.

Click here to view the terms of the Universal Service (at the bottom of the page).

You can choose a more suitable product in My Contracts section by clicking Change Product button.

In that case, we invite you to change the payment method fromBalanced Payment to Bill. You can do this in My Contracts section of the portal, under Contract Settings and Contact Information tab.

It is not correct to calculate the total fee per 1 kWh, since the electricity bill consists of several parts, including fixed fees. However, you can compare the electricity price per 1 kWh for different products. This makes up approximately 1/3 of the total bill amount.

You can view the price per 1 kWh of your electricity product in My Contracts section. This price does not include the fee for distribution and transmission or VAT. Meanwhile, in Electricity Calculator you can compare the price per 1 kWh for the products that match your electricity consumption.

We recommend using Electricity calculator. There you can enter your consumption, compare the estimated monthly costs and choose the product that best suits your consumption.

We send information about the new offer at least 30 days before the planned price changes. The customer can accept or reject this offer and choose another product in the self-service portal elektrum.lv.

After rejecting the offer, the customer must choose a new product themselves. If no new product is chosen, the Elektrum Universal Service comes into effect automatically.

In such a case, you can choose a product that is more suitable for your contract in the elektrum.lv portal. First, log in to the portal, then click Change Product under My Contracts section. Compare the offered products using the Electricity Calculator and then click Choose Product next to the desired product.

Elektrum Universal Product can be changed to any other product from the following month, and we do not apply a product change fee for this.

You will not be able to choose Elektrum Dynamic Product in the Elektrum.lv portal if an electricity generation installation is installed at the property.

This applies, for example, to properties with a microgenerator or solar panels.

To choose Elektrum Dynamic Product, we invite you to contact our Customer Service.

Yes, you can choose the Elektrum Dynamic product. We invite you to contact our Customer Service, as in this case it is not possible to conclude a contract for this product in the self-service portal.

You can change the trader no more often than once a month. However, please pay attention to the contractual terms and conditions regarding the early termination fee. Our product range includes products both with and without contract termination fees. You can find the terms and conditions of your contract in My Contracts section.

Important to remember! In order for the new contract to come into force on the 1st day of the next month, you must change the trader by the 9th day of the current month. If you change the trader after the 9th day, the new contract will come into force on the 1st day of the second following month.

You can choose the most suitable product for each contract, but you can also combine multiple contracts into one. This will give you a higher total monthly consumption and therefore a better price. To make changes and find the best solution for you, please contact Eektrum Customer Service.

The electricity price may change up to twice per calendar year if your contract is concluded for an indefinite period. We will notify you of any electricity price changes at least 30 days in advance.

If your contract is concluded for a fixed term, the electricity price will remain unchanged throughout the contract period.
You can view your contract term in the “My Contracts” section.

For the Elektrum Dynamic product, the electricity price changes continuously every 15 minutes, according to Nord Pool Spot exchange prices.

The total cost of electricity consists of several components — the electricity price itself makes up only about one-third of the total amount. The other components, such as the distribution system service fee (electricity delivery) and VAT, may vary depending on the market situation.

Yes, sure! If you already have a contract for natural gas trade, you can switch the trader on the portal after you log in.

More information on natural gas trade and contract conclusion is available here.

The electricity market means that any electricity user can freely choose the supplier, price and service offer most suitable for them.

The physical supply of electricity to all users is ensured by Sadales tīkls AS.

Learn more about the Electricity Market here!

Since the opening of the electricity market, the total fee for electricity has consisted of several parts. This includes both the price for the kilowatt-hours consumed and various fixed fees. Therefore, the fee per 1 kWh can no longer be calculated using the historical method – by dividing monthly consumption by the amount of the electricity bill. Instead, you can view the fee for each component separately on the bill.

You can find the electricity price of your chosen product in My Contracts section of the portal. This makes up approximately 1/3 of the total electricity payment.

You can follow the current exchange price here:

In general, the factors affecting electricity prices can be divided into three groups.

Global Factors:

  • fuel, oil and CO2 prices;
  • politics (for example, unrest in the Middle East; the phase-out of nuclear power plants in Germany);
  • natural disasters (for example, the tsunami in Japan).

Regional Factors:

  • the hydrological situation;
  • outages at major power plants and on transmission lines.

Local Factors:

  • flooding;
  • transmission network constraints;
  • power plant outages.

No, electricity is supplied through the same wires regardless of the trader you choose. This can be compared to transport services: goods suppliers may differ, but the roads used to deliver the goods to you as the buyer are the same. There is a single transmission and distribution network system throughout the country.

No, not always. It depends on how electricity is metered in the building.

Each resident can choose the electricity trader most suitable for them, if each flat has its own Sadales tīkls AS electricity meter and residents pay for electricity individually.

All residents have one electricity trader, and it cannot be chosen by each individual separately, if the building has a shared electricity metering system. This also applies in cases where the contract for the electricity supply of the entire building has been concluded by the building manager or residents’ association. In such a case, the electricity trader is chosen by the building manager or residents’ association.

The total electricity payment comprises 2 components:

  • electricity price;
  • fee for the transmission and distribution services;

The total electricity cost is also subject to value added tax of 21%. Please read more about the components that make up the electricity price.

No, the electricity price does not depend on the technical parameters of the connection. However, if you increase your connection power, your total electricity costs will increase (fee for transmission, distribution services and power components). You can find more information on bill components here.

On the exchange, all electricity producers sell the electricity they generate to buyers, including AS “Latvenergo.” Traders then sell the purchased electricity to the end user — the customer.

Nord Pool Spot is the Nordic electricity exchange. It operates in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, and also Latvia. The Nord Pool Spot exchange price directly affects the electricity price in the Baltic region, which is why Nord Pool Spot prices serve as the best, most accurate, and most objective source of price information at present.

The electricity price on the exchange is formed according to supply and demand in 15-minute intervals. It is influenced by various factors — the availability of hydro resources, the volume of wind and solar energy production, fossil fuel prices, overall electricity demand, and others.

In Latvia, the Daugava hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) and Riga thermal power plants (CHPs) can fully cover the country’s consumption only during certain periods; at other times, the necessary electricity is imported. Prices set by foreign suppliers are based on Nord Pool Spot exchange prices, ensuring a transparent pricing mechanism.

Up-to-date information can be found on the Nord Pool website!

People in Latvia pay less for electricity than average consumers in the EU countries.

Households in Germany and Denmark pay twice as much for electricity as in Latvia.

Households in Ireland, Belgium and Austria also pay above the EU and Latvian average level.

However, it must be remembered that each country has different components that make up the final price of electricity: supply services, taxes, subsidies, etc. Read more about electricity prices in Europe!

The final guaranteed supply is the supply of electricity intended for a user who does not have a valid electricity trade or balancing service contract.

In such situations, the final guaranteed supply ensures the continuity of electricity supply.

For more information about the final guaranteed supply please visit the website of Sadales tīkls AS.

The electricity charge consists of 2 parts:

  • the price of electricity, which varies depending on the electricity trader chosen;
  • distribution system services, which include the provision of the electricity connection, uninterrupted electricity supply and meter servicing, provided by Sadales tīkls AS.

Sadales tīkls AS ensures an electricity connection for all customers – even if no electricity is consumed at the property for some time. Therefore, the total electricity payment includes a fixed fee for ensuring the connection.

This can be compared to a subscription fee: the connection is available even if you use little electricity or none.

This fee helps to maintain and develop the distribution system so that customers’ electricity connections are safe and of high quality.

You can resolve all electricity-related questions, including those about electricity distribution and supply, by contacting us. If the matter needs to be resolved with Sadales tīkls AS, we will pass it on for resolution on your behalf.

The exception is fault reporting. In such cases, we invite you to contact Sadales tīkls AS directly so that the fault can be registered and rectified as quickly as possible. The fault reporting telephone number 8404, available 24/7.

We invite you to use Load Calculator.

The calculator data is for information purposes only. We recommend consulting a certified electrical specialist before making a decision on changes to the permitted load.

The fee will be calculated in proportion to the number of days since the contract conclusion.

It may be possible to reduce the monthly payment if not all of the available connection capacity is used in the household. Part of the payment consists of transmission and distribution services, so one possible solution may be to reduce the connection capacity, i.e. the load.

Before reducing the load, assess how many electrical appliances you use and load volume is required when several appliances are operating simultaneously. This can be determined by using Load Calculator. It calculates the input protection device current rating required for the use of the electrical appliances you have specified.

Before making a decision on load changes, we recommend consulting a certified electrical specialist or a company that provides such services.

After deciding to reduce the load, complete the application on Sadales tīkls AS website.

The electricity connection to your property remains available even if the meter is temporarily disconnected. Therefore, the fee for maintaining the connection remains in force.

Load Calculator is an informational tool developed by Sadales tīkls AS. It helps to estimate the connection capacity or load required for the use of the specified electrical appliances.

In the calculator, you must indicate the household area, the number of phases and the electrical appliances used. Upon entering this data, the calculator estimates how much load may be required for the simultaneous use of electrical appliances.

The calculation result helps you understand whether the current connection capacity meets the household's needs and whether you overpay for unused load.

You can apply for load changes in Sadales tīkls AS portal by completing an application form.

Before making a decision on load changes, we recommend consulting a certified electrical specialist or a company that provides such services. The calculator's estimations serve for information purposes only.

The fee for distribution and transmission services consists of two parts:

  • the fixed part, which depends on the number of phases and the capacity at your property;
  • the variable part, which is applied to each kWh consumed.

Currently, two types of tariffs are available. They differ according to the proportion of the fixed and variable fee:

"Basic" tariffs – suitable for regular daily consumption.
 "Special" tariffs – suitable for very low or seasonal consumption, when the connection is used irregularly or very little electricity is consumed. For example, such a tariff may be suitable for a periodically occupied flat, a summer house during the winter period, a business with seasonal operations, a garage or a cellar, etc.

Learn more about distribution system tariffs here.

We invite you to use Sadales tīkls AS Tariff Calculator to estimate more suitable tariff. You can apply for distribution system tariff changes by logging in to the portal e-st.lv.

You can find your tariff in My Contracts section of the Elektrum portal, under the Properties section, as well as in your monthly electricity bills. There are two types of tariff available:

Learn more about distribution system tariffs here.

"Special" tariff may be suitable for very low or seasonal electricity consumption. The most suitable tariff can be identified using Sadales tīkls AS Tariff Calculator.

You can apply for a tariff change in Sadales tīkls AS portal by completing the application form. The changes will take effect from the following month.

Yes, it is possible.

You can apply for a tariff change free of charge in Sadales tīkls AS portal by completing the application form. The changes will take effect from the following month.

The most suitable tariff can be identified using Sadales tīkls AS Tariff Calculator.

You can change the transmission and distribution services tariff from "Basic" to "Special" and vice versa an unlimited number of times at no additional charge.

Yes, the fee for distribution system services must also be paid if solar panels are installed.

The distribution services fee consists of 2 parts:

  • connection fee;
  • electricity supply fee.

The connection fee must be paid by all electricity users.

The electricity supply fee must be paid if you take electricity from the network or use electricity fed into the network.

This fee does not have to be paid for electricity generated by the solar panels and used immediately for your own needs.

You can apply to reduce or increase the load in Sadales tīkls AS portal by submitting a load change application.

Reducing the load is free of charge, but increasing the load is a paid service. Before increasing the load, Sadales tīkls AS will carry out calculations and inform you on the costs.

You can calculate the required load for your property using the Load Calculator. The calculator provides an approximate estimation. We recommend contacting a certified electrician to obtain an accurate load calculation.

Yes, the fee is applied for each place of connection of Sadales tīkls AS.

From 2026, the state-regulated support for the distribution system service fee is no longer applied. Previously, this support was granted to users with a connection capacity of up to 25 A.

This support was in effect in 2024 and 2025 and reduced customers’ payments for distribution system services.

To find out the exact distribution system service costs for your connection in 2026, you can use the tariff calculator.

You can find out the number of phases and the capacity of the connection at your facility in “My agreements”, under “Objects” next to the specific agreement.

Yes, these costs are included in the electricity price, but they are not shown as a separate charge on the bill. They are one of the components that make up the total electricity price.

In February 2025, the Baltic states joined the European power system. Until then, grid frequency stability was maintained within the BRELL system, which connected the power grids of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

After joining the European power system, the Baltic states became responsible for providing the necessary balancing capacity themselves. This created additional costs related to maintaining grid stability.

Electricity users can see their electricity consumption data and market prices in 15-minute intervals instead of hourly intervals.

The Nord Pool exchange transitioned to 15-minute electricity metering and trading intervals on 30 September 2025, and the first day of electricity delivery under the new regime was 1 October 2025.

You can see your 15-minute electricity consumption data:

  • in the Elektrum portal;
  • in the AS “Sadales tīkls” customer portal e-st.lv.

The transition is necessary to:

  • promote the development of renewable energy;
  • more precisely coordinate electricity demand and supply;
  • more efficiently use electricity transmission lines between countries;
  • implement uniform principles throughout the European Union;
  • allow electricity users to plan their electricity consumption and production much more accurately, thus creating greater opportunities for savings.

You can track your electricity consumption in the portal section My Reports, under the tab Smart Meter Consumption Report.

With the Dynamic product, electricity consumption is recorded in 15-minute intervals, and the corresponding electricity market price is applied to each interval. Your bill depends on which 15-minute intervals you consume electricity in. To reduce your electricity costs, you can:

  • monitor electricity prices in 15-minute intervals;
  • schedule the operation of high-power electrical appliances during 15-minute intervals when the price is lower;
  • avoid higher consumption during intervals with higher prices.

The mandatory procurement component (MPC) was a state-regulated support payment for electricity producers. Producers could receive this support if they generated electricity from renewable energy sources or in cogeneration.

The support mechanism for producers was defined in the “Electricity Market Law” and the “Regulations regarding the Trade and Use of Electricity” issued by the Cabinet of Ministers. The MPC amount was approved by the Public Utilities Commission.  As with all electricity traders, we were obliged to include the MPC in the monthly electricity bill. The MPC was incorporated into bills until 2023.

Media reports have emerged regarding a private association’s initiative calling for the recovery of MPC payments. We are unable to comment on its progress or results.

You may, at your own discretion, participate in the initiative proposed by the private association, as with any other activity of this kind.  Currently, there is no legal framework in place that would grant customers the right to recover the paid MPC.

We included the MPC payments in the invoice in accordance with the applicable national laws and regulations. Legal procedures or regulations are needed to determine how refunds should be made to customers. Currently, no decision or regulation from the legislator would allow for an MPC refund; therefore, it is not possible. The launched campaign concerning MPC recovery is a private association's initiative in which we are not involved.

No. The MPC was included in the electricity bill based on the following regulatory framework:

  • “Electricity Market Law”;
  • “Regulations regarding the Trade and Use of Electricity” adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Electricity traders included the MPC in electricity bills according to the applicable national laws and regulations.

The traders did not keep the collected MPC payments for themselves. The MPC was remunerated to electricity producers in the form of state support.

Currently, there is no legal framework in place that would grant customers the right to recover the paid MPC. At this time, the MPC refund is not possible.

The initiative for the MPC refund is organised by a private association. We will not be able to provide you with support in this process as we do not participate in the initiative.

Yes, we can prepare information for you about your MPC payments. If necessary, please contact our customer service:

  • by calling 8400;
  • by emailing klientu.serviss@elektrum.lv

Currently, there is no regulatory framework in place regarding MPC refunds or the amount of compensation. Please follow the latest developments in this area.

Currently, there is no regulatory framework in place with regard to MPC refunds, refund procedures, or compensation amounts for users.

Please follow the latest developments in this area.

We will comply with all regulations concerning MPC refunds, should any be issued.

No, you don’t need to submit meter readings. We will receive the consumption data automatically.

You need to submit meter readings only if are switching off the fuses at your property. You can submit meter readings here from the 27th of each month until the 3rd of the following month.

You can submit meter readings here from the 27th of each month until the 3rd of the following month.

Alternatively, you can submit meter readings here on behalf of another person.

If you have a smart meter installed at your property, you don’t need to submit meter readings. We will receive the consumption data automatically.

Another person who knows your contract number can also submit your meter reading on your behalf. This can be done here.

We recommend checking the following:

  • Has the meter reading been read and entered correctly?
  • Is the contract number is correct?
  • Is the right property address selected?

Please check whether a smart meter is installed at the property. An electricity meter with an electronic display is a smart meter, and its readings are read remotely on the last day of the month. In this case, you do not need to submit meter readings.

You may continue to submit smart meter readings manually, but we will use the data read remotely by AS Sadales tīkls to draw up your bill.

If you have doubts about the accuracy of the remotely read readings, please contact the customer service centre of AS Sadales tīkls.

A smart meter cannot send data if the fuses are switched off at the property. In such a case, the meter reading must be submitted manually from the 27th of each month until the 3rd of the following month.

The meter reading should be read automatically if a smart meter is installed at the property and the fuses are switched on. If the reading is still not being read, please contact our customer service.

For smart meters, the meter number is indicated under the barcode. For old-style meters, the number is indicated next to the abbreviation “No.:”.
